CALLING FOR A FUTURE OF COMPASSION AND SUSTAINABILITY AT THE COP28.

Proposed a paradigm-shifting “Safe & Just” Report at the COP28

The Animal Climate and Health Save India Team embarked on an inspiring journey to COP28, advocating a transformative shift towards a plant-based food system for a sustainable future. Our visit to COP28 marked another pivotal moment in our mission to combat climate change and promote environmental stewardship through dietary change.

At the heart of our campaign at COP28 was the presentation of the groundbreaking report "Safe & Just: The Vegan Donut Economics Approach to Food Systems." Inspired by Kate Raworth's innovative Donut Model, this report underscores the critical need for a holistic transformation of our global food system. It highlights the interconnected crises of climate change, biodiversity loss, and social inequity, proposing a shift to plant-based diets as a critical solution for mitigating these challenges.

The report outlines urgent steps to transition towards a carbon-neutral, biodiverse, and equitable food system. Among the key proposals is the Plant Based Treaty, offering 40 detailed measures to halt the expansion of animal agriculture, embrace plant-based diets, and rejuvenate our ecosystems. It emphasises the disproportionate impact of animal agriculture on climate change and advocates for reorienting subsidies to support plant-based systems.

How a donut can solve the climate crisis?

Our footprint at the COP27

2022 marked the year of voicing it at the highest forum for climate leaders.

Animal Save Movement (ASM) attended the COP27 World Leaders Summit 2022 in Egypt. Aprajita Ashish, Regional Liaison Asia along with the team members of ASM visits the summit and talks with the change-makers from around the globe. Animal Save India participated in several climate forums and discussion panels that happened at the summit and gave their valuable input.

The Indian representative spoke about our collective missions and vision with officials from the UN, delegates and rank holders from other countries, and plant-based food and lifestyle brands from across the globe. They met the environment minister of India in the summit and seized the opportunity to endorse it.

With more than 15 chapters across India alone, Animal Save India has not left any corner of the country to mark their presence. Workshops, food distribution, outreaches, activism and campaign endorsement are some of the many events the organisation regularly does across India.

“The best time to worry about climate was yesterday. While still, a majority of the public does not know that animal agriculture contributes maximum to the depletion of climate and the ecosystem, we strive to educate everyone about the importance of switching to a plant-based lifestyle.”- Aprajita Ashish at COP27.

Climate Save India, not only educates people about the seriousness of the climate crisis but also does on-ground work to bring change. Tree plantation drives, seed distribution drives, interactive workshops and much more.
